Kathleen Rye Is Eating Right and Rockin’ “Billie Jean”
Danville’s mission is to improve the quality of life for the people in our care. When we are able to do that, it’s a win-win for everyone.
Kathleen Rye, a resident in a Danville group home since last May, knows first hand what a difference Danville can make. Previously, she lived on her own and had the help of one caretaker. She says she was sometimes lonely, but since moving to a Danville residence she enjoys a family-like setting with her new roommates and staff.
On Kathleen’s birthday this year, she celebrated at Pizza Planet with all of the roommates and many staff, some who were not on shift, but still attended because they wanted to help Kathleen celebrate and to feel completely welcome in her new environment. Kathleen says it was a wonderful day and she was thrilled to have so many people there who cared about her, something she did not have before.
Due to Kathleen’s dialysis she is on a restrictive diet that can be frustrating for her, as there are many things she can no longer eat. However since moving to Danville, staff members responsible for menu planning have been working closely with Kathleen’s medical team, and Kathleen, to help her find things that she can eat, and things that she enjoys eating. Kathleen is much happier with her meals and the lab work that they do at dialysis has greatly improved as well, allowing Kathleen to have more options with her meals.
When Kathleen isn’t busy teasing her friends, she enjoys going to movies. She also loves to dance and seriously rocks “The Michael Jackson Experience” on the Nintendo Wii.
