Meet Tim, A Group Home Resident Since 2000
Tim has been living at Danville's Oak Hills group home since the year 2000, and although he shares his house with four housemates, he takes a lot of pride in the privacy and comfort of his own room. In his room he has an extensive collection of movies and television shows, including classics like “Wonder Woman”, “V”, and, of course, his favorite show, “Batman”. Often, while watching funny movies, Tim’s infectious laugh can be heard throughout the house. Tim works hard to save money so that he can make a new DVD purchase monthly and continue to grow his collection.
During the week Tim wakes up and gets ready in time for the bus to take him to work at a local work program. When he gets home Tim very much enjoys talking about his daily schedule and the dates of upcoming activities, and does an excellent job of planning ahead for big events. One of Tim’s favorite activities is his weekly shopping trip for groceries. Tim is extremely independent while shopping, and knows his way around the store like the back of his hand. While shopping Tim makes wholesome choices so that he can stay fit and healthy.
Tim is very active in his home and community. He helps out around the house every day doing things like getting the mail and taking out the garbage. Tim also cares about the environment by recycling what he can, and encouraging others to do the same. Every Sunday Tim attends a local church on his own, where he sings along with songs he knows and interacts with members of the congregation. Tim always says he has a good time at church. Tim also goes out to dinner at least once a week with one of his favorite staff members, and is always excited when he hears about a new restaurant he can try. Tim also goes bowling and swimming in the summer, and frequently goes out to new movies with his parents on weekends. Tim’s parents also take him on vacation to Disneyland every couple of years, which Tim is eager to talk about all year long.
Tim’s staff members agree that working with Tim is “always pleasant,” and his smiling, laughing, and singing brightens the day of everyone he meets.
